Kewanee Man Gets the Ultimate “Muscle Car”
Last Friday, Roy Cordrey was able to get hold of what is said to be the fastest car ever sold in Kewanee – it will be forfeited of course if someone has bought 200 mph or more for car power.
He picked up his new Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat at Crowe Auto Group on Tenney Street. For the record, the Hellcat has been clocked at 199 mph at the track and in a span of 3 seconds it can go from 0-60 mph. It can achieve a quarter-mile for about 10.8 seconds.
This performance is because of the 707-horsepower supercharged V8, which the website calls “The most powerful production V8 engine ever.”
The supercharger will be engaged when the two sets of keys will be used. Although you can start it with one key but will only achieve 500 hp ONLY.
Hellcat offers automatic transmission and Cordrey got the standard six-manual transmission.
EPA gave Hellcat a rating of 22 mpg for the gas of the car.
Cordrey placed his order last September and has been patiently been waiting since then.
Dodge started accepting orders for the Hellcat on Sept. 9 and Cordrey placed his order two days later. Chrysler only planned to make 1,200 of the cars, but within a few days, more than 5,000 orders had been received, Cordrey said.
He said he was surprised he was able to order the car through Crowe’s, since he understood all of the Hellcats were going to high-volume Dodge dealers in big cities.
Cordrey said he’s always been interested in “muscle cars,” and has owned a number of them. He currently has a 1967 Plymouth GTX Hemi, and said it’s one of only 45 that were made
He won’t be able to test the car’s performance for a while, as Dodge says to limit the speed for a break-in period of 500 miles.
Cordrey said he has no plans to race the car. But he added, “I might lay a little rubber on occasion.”
