A future classic: The Mustang GT?

We all know the Mustang has been around since 1964 and it has been up and down in sales. Currently this 2016 Mustang GT 350 is Car and Drivers car of the year. In a previous article I mentioned Motor Trend picked a Chevy Camaro and a Chevy Truck as there picks.

Is the new Stang a future classic? I am going to vote yes. And not because I am a Mustang GT owner but for reasons I have laid out in the past. The car shows of today are filled with Camaro’s, Mustangs, Corvettes, and so on. They are cool when new and they are cool when old. All of them.

The high end Mustangs such as this or the other high end cars available at your local dealership will sell. There is a buyer for everything unless it is a diesel four door Chevette and then the sales crawl. I personally love these new classics. I mean they have power, braking, air conditioning, great stereos, wonderful seats and so on. Of course we thought that about our 70 Chevelle too but found out quick it didn’t.

I hope this car and cars like it sell like mad and I am alive years from now to see them as the classics then. Oh I will smile when someone rolls in driving one of these in comparison to a driverless car. The thought of a car driving me just does not sound appealing unless I have a 104 fever. I want to hear the exhaust, I want to feel the brakes, I want to steer the car around tight turns. This car is a classic now and I will lay odds that years from now when someone is riding in there scrubbing bubble car at 20 mph that some young guy comes up on him and drops a gear and smokes the tires for fifty feet and then rockets into the distance. Oh, do I hope.
